Porto Venere is one of the most characteristic fortified villages. Looking at it from the sea you feel to come out of a book of adventures, with those original houses like towers, colored in pink, in red and in yellow color... with the roof tiles blocked by rocks and the steep stairs to climb up to the castle by the sea.
Then the church, atop a rocky outcrop, which transmits sensations of extreme simplicity, of endless peace, of domination of the sea: the Chapel of St. Peter, built entirely of rocks, is tiny and majestic at the same time, able to transmit a unique charm.
Going through the door of the walls of the village, dating back to 1160, you can see impressive and important architectural surveys such as the "Torre Capitolare", more up the Church of San Lorenzo, the twelfth century, and, just above, the Doria Castle.
From the square below the castle you have a wonderful view from one side to the "Cappella di San Pietro" and the open sea with the original rocky coastline.

Civil and symbolic ceremonies - Wedding banquets

The Castle of Porto Venere stands on top of a rocky promontory with a structure made up of blind walls made with powerful vaults in local stone. Currently, the Doria Castle is used for art exhibitions both in the summer, both in the winter and also national and international conferences as well as weddings. These can take place inside, in the "Captain's lounge" or outside on the terrace or in the amphitheater (esplanade). It is possible to organize civil official ceremonies as well as replication ceremonies and banquets.

   Catholic wedding ceremonies

A catholic ceremony for weddings can take place, after written request, in the small picturesque San Pietro Chapel. There are many requests for a wedding ceremony in the Chapel: your wedding planner can prepare a request in the right time ! However many wedding ceremonies take place in San Lorenzo Church.
